Taking the first step toward debt relief can feel overwhelming, but we make the process as straightforward as possible. Below is a step-by-step guide to everything you need to do to get started with your bankruptcy case at the Law Office of Erin Bradley McAleer.
You Will Speak with a Real Attorney
We are not like some other local bankruptcy attorneys who only direct you to their legal staff or their website. When you call, you will speak with a real attorney about your issues no matter how small, or an attorney will return your call promptly.
Step 1: Complete Required Disclosure Forms
Download, read, sign, and return the following required disclosure forms:
- Important Information About Your Bankruptcy Case
- Mandatory Bankruptcy Disclosure Form
Step 2: Complete the Bankruptcy Questionnaire
Complete and return the Bankruptcy Questionnaire, which provides our attorneys with the detailed financial information needed to prepare your case.
Step 3: Complete Pre-Filing Credit Counseling
Federal law requires that each filer complete a credit counseling course before filing. Return the Certificate of Completion for each filer. Recommended providers include:
- Debtor CC (www.debtorcc.org)
- Big Step Training (www.bigsteptraining.org)
Step 4: Gather Required Documents
You will need to gather the following documentation for your case:
- Paystubs for the last 6 months before filing
- Proof of other income (unemployment, Social Security, pensions, rent collected, state aid, support from others)
- 3 full months of bank statements from all checking, savings, and money market accounts
- Last 2 years of tax returns with W-2s, 1099s, and all IRS schedules
- Vehicle registration copies
- Sales contracts for vehicles purchased within 90 days
Additional Documents for Business Owners
- Profit and Loss (P&L) statements for the last 6 months
